Chris Barker has these words for learner drivers: “Do enjoy learning to drive, it is an exciting experience. Chris is a lifelong driving aficionado, having been behind the wheel of “just about everything” – from a Mini to a Daf truck - in the last two decades.
He’s driven in an astonishing array of weather conditions, from flooding brought on by torrential rain to driving in whiteout blizzards.
Chris is renowned among present and past pupils for his patience, ability to communicate and sense of humour.
He explains: "Burley consistently produces exceptional drivers who are able to think for themselves in potentially hazardous situations.
None of our pupils are taught on driving test routes – ever.
This is because I feel very strongly that too much emphasis is placed by some driving schools on merely passing a test, rather than equipping people to drive well for life.
My goal is to teach all pupils to drive well beyond test standard, because as a driving instructor I need ensure that after they have passed their test, new drivers will be ready to take to the road in the real world, brimming with confidence."
